Kari Ann Cistera was born, raised, and remains in Minnesota. She is married with four children, two of which practice karate as well. Kari Ann is a Registered Nurse currently working in Homecare and Hospice, and is always wanting to help care for others. In addition, she has returned back to college to further her education in Nursing, all while remaining on the Dean’s list. Kari Ann joined Minneapolis Shotokan Karate Club in 2008 with her husband Vince Cistera, and earned her Shodan (1st degree) rank in 2014. Kari Ann continues to progress her passion for Shotokan Karate and enthusiasm for pushing herself and others beyond perceived limitations with her Karate practice.
David A. Schmitt, was born and raised in Minnesota. He is married with five children and two grandchildren, David has maintained a private practice since 2000 and has been a psychotherapist for 30 years. David originally joined Shotokan Karate in 1978 while studying at B.Y.U. under senior members Tom and Fred House. After twenty years of absence he returned to practice in 2006 joining the Minneapolis Shotokan Karate Dojo. In 2009 David earned his Shodan (1st degree) rank and requested permission from Tsutomu Ohshima to lead the Minneapolis Shotokan Karate Dojo.
